History and Background of The College
The College of Water and Environmental Management is the successor of the agricultural vocational school, or 'Practical School of Diligence,' founded by the Lutheran priest Samuel Tessedik in Szarvas in 1780.
The educational work and all professional training at college is provided in accordance with the tradition of Tessedik's institution. The College tries to achieve specific, practice oriented goals based on modern theory and at the same time strives to meet the changing requirements of our time. The College is also interested in offering specializations not offered by other institutions in the current structure or with sufficiant depth of knowlegde.

It is the high level of professional and scientific activity at the Faculty that guarantees the quality of the content that lies behind the faculty's slogan 'Tradition, Competitive Knowledge and a Secure Future'.
Six Institutes participate in the training with well equipped lecture rooms and seminar rooms, language and computer labs, professional laboratories; all of which provide the infrastructure and technical background for the training.
The College has an approximately 60-hectar field work centre for practical training.
Its extended departments include the Körös-Maros National Park, Szarvas Arboretum, Fishery and Irrigation Research Institute and the Alföld Scientific Institute of MTA (Hungarian Academy of Sciences) Centre for Regional Research in Békéscsaba, which are all incorporated into the educational programs. Students participate in the scientific work of the Institutes of the College as members of ' the Students' Scientific Associations.' Under the leadership of tutors in the Institutes students participate in designing and conducting scientific work and the collection, analizing and reporting of results. Annually, we arrange Students' Scientific Conferences where student members present their research activities and results. Students with the best research programs may represent our College at the National Students' Scientific Conferences.
Student Housing
The student hostels on campus were recently reopened after being renovated in 2008. The new facilities provide students with rooms for two to three persons, which include a comfortable living area, a small kitchen and bathroom. Internet access is also available to the students in the rooms. Altogether, the facilities provide the students with an atmosphere which fosters a positive learning and social experience.
Leisure time
The Library is housed in the College Building adjacent to the student hostel and is connected to the training rooms which will permit the valuable use of the facilities during breaks and free time.
Performances in nearby theatres, concerts, films and other entertainment programs in the City Cultural Centre are available. The many lakes and wetlands surrounding the Körös River provides endless resources for water-based recreational opportunities near the College.
