Ambassador of the State of Israel visits SZIU

His Excellency Ilan Mor, Ambassador of Israel to Hungary paid a visit to Szent István University on 17 March 2016 and delivered a lecture, titled “Israel: From Agriculture (1948) to the Silicon Wadi (2016)” within the framework of Science and Society - Global Issues of the 21st Century course. The presentation gave the audience an insight into the Israeli ways to support and promote innovation. Israel seeks to be self-sufficient so it fosters innovative methods to find solutions to serious problems such as shortage of water and energy. Since the country’s most important natural resources are human resources, Israel places a special emphasis on high educational standards. Young people are given the opportunity to introduce their innovative ideas even during their mandatory military service.  If an idea is worth realizing, it will receive funding to be implemented.  This is the reason why a country of 8.4 million people could launch more start-up businesses than Japan, India, South-Korea or the United Kingdom.
Prior to his presentation, His Excellency met Dr. János Tőzsér, Rector of Szent István University, Dr. István Szabó, Director for International Relations and Dr. Zsuzsanna Tarr, Head of International Relations Office. They discussed SZIU’s cooperation possibilities with Israeli higher education institutions and companies.
